HIGHWAY ACCESS
Twenty miles of Interstate 75 traverse the county with seven interchanges, and Interstate 675, which provides easy access to Interstate 85 and Interstate 20 via I-285, begins in the northern part of Henry County. From this strategic vantage point, Henry County is less than two days’ driving time to 80 percent of the U.S. population.

AIR CARGO AND FREIGHT
Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport has also become a leading air cargo center. There are three main air cargo complexes at Hartsfield-Jackson, with the total on-airport air cargo warehouse space measuring some two million square feet. In addition to the main cargo complexes, Hartsfield-Jackson houses a U.S. Department of Agriculture-approved Perishables Complex, the only one of its kind in the southeast United States. Nearly 600,000 metric tons of cargo were shipped through Hartsfield-Jackson in 2009. More than two dozen all-cargo and express airlines ship out of Atlanta, and another two dozen airlines carry passengers and freight from Hartsfield-Jackson.

PORTS
Georgia’s two deepwater ports – at Savannah and Brunswick – are just a few hours to the south via I-75, I-16 and I-95. With more than 100 steamship lines serving Georgia, our ports lead the south Atlantic area in cargo handled in foreign commerce.

Port of Savannah

Georgia has two Class I railroads – CSX and Norfolk Southern – that also serve the Atlanta area, which is an intermodal hub for container and bulk distribution. Both Norfolk Southern and CSX Transportation have intermodal (piggyback) capability in nearby Atlanta, which expedites all piggyback and container shipments between the Savannah Container Port and Atlanta. Henry County is served directly by Norfolk Southern, with rail-served properties located proximate to Interstate 75.

The Port of Savannah’s Container Port is a single terminal facility with on-dock rail service and immediate access to I-16 and I-95.

Colonel’s Island Terminal at the Port of Brunswick offers shippers the South Atlantic’s most modern RO/RO and dry bulk facilities, and is expanding its bulk material handling capacity. U.S. Highway 17 bisects the island, putting it within minutes of Interstate 95, the East Coast’s major north/south corridor.

RAIL
Railroads have been central to the development of the Atlanta area and Henry County; today, a 4,900 mile network of main and branch lines running throughout the state connect in Atlanta.
