Henry County has joined Gwinnett County and Cherokee County as being among the largest counties in Georgia to receive the state’s Work Ready Certification, according to officials with the Henry County Chamber of Commerce.

Henry County officials welcomed the Sri Lankan Ambassador to the United States for a meeting to discuss ways the two entities could nurture a relationship that could be mutually beneficial to each other.

In a ranking of all 50 states in ten categories of competitiveness, Georgia was recently ranked as the 4th Top State for Business.

The Henry County Water & Sewerage Authority has been honored at the state level for having the best water plant, and wastewater treatment plant in Georgia.

As part of Industry Appreciation Week, the Henry County Development Authority, together with the Henry County Chamber of Commerce, hosted an Industry Appreciation Luncheon on April 26, 2011. 

The Henry County Board of Commissioners proclaimed the week of April 25th as Industry Appreciation Week. The four cities of Hampton, Locust Grove, McDonough and Stockbridge also made similar proclamations this month, all of which coincide with the Governor’s statewide proclamation of Georgia Manufacturing Appreciation Week.

Henry County Schools is one of ten Georgia school districts, this month, to be named to the College Board’s “Advanced Placement (AP) Achievement District Honor Roll” for 2011.

Clayton and Henry counties are ready for their close-ups, Mr. Demille. The two Southern Crescent communities were named at the Georgia State Capitol, on Monday, as two of the 73 communities in Georgia that are deemed to be “Camera Ready,” by the Georgia Film, Music & Digital Entertainment Office.

A McDonough manufacturing plant is working to ensure that Southern Crescent-area schools have some of the “extra” tools educators say they need, in producing successful students.

The Henry County Development Authority (HCDA) annual Election of Officers was held at its regularly scheduled January board meeting. HCDA is pleased to announce four officer elections: Mrs. Vickie Loper of McDonough, chairman; Mr. Ken Huff of Hampton, vice chairman; Mr. D. Scott McCarter of Locust Grove, secretary/treasurer.

Bob White, Executive Director of the Henry County Development Authority will serve as Chairman of the Georgia Economic Developers Association (GEDA) for 2011. Elected by the Association’s members at the statewide organization’s annual meeting in September, White will succeed Pat Topping, of the Macon Economic Development Commission, as GEDA Chairman.

Ask a savvy beer enthusiast to name the gift they most wished for but didn’t get this Christmas and they might offer a sly wink and answer, “A brewery.” Homebrewer Glenn Golden made that wish come true for himself in late 2009 when he opened Jailhouse Brewing Co. in Hampton, joining the ranks of Sweetwater and Red Brick in Atlanta and Terrapin in Athens as the only four production craft breweries operating in Georgia.

Governor Sonny Perdue announced today that Phillips-Van Heusen Corporation [NYSE: PVH], one of the world’s largest apparel companies, is relocating and expanding its current Georgia distribution operation to McDonough in Henry County.  The company will add approximately 150 jobs, bringing its existing workforce to approximately 300, and will invest in a highly automated, state of the art distribution center.

The Henry County Development Authority utilizes the unclaimed capital credits from local EMCs to fund its small business outreach initiatives. As part of these initiatives, the Development Authority recently donated $565.48 in small business resource materials to the Henry County Library System at the McDonough Public Library.  The unclaimed capital credits were from both the Snapping Shoals EMC and the Central Georgia EMC.

The Henry County Development Authority, together with the Georgia Department of Economic Development, helped bring Inline Plastics Corp. to Henry County, and with it, up to 120 jobs.  The Connecticut-based company celebrated the grand opening of its McDonough plant on Tuesday.
